Sixty-seven years ago, a story began in a coffee town called Caripe, in the northern region of Monagas state, Venezuela.
In Colombia, 'Excelso' coffee is referred to as a Hulled bean resulting from a very meticulous selection based mainly on its physical and sensory characteristics but primarily on its size.
64 years ago, the agronomist Gustavo Buonaffina Parra discovered in the municipality of Caripe, also known as the "Garden of the Venezuelan East", due to the plant exuberance of its territory, a unique variety of coffee, the Caripe Hybrid.
The coffee supply chain is long and complex, and one of its greatest criticisms is that value is traditionally added beyond the producing country. As a result, the income gained from adding that value is never really passed on to the producer, who is generally paid just a small proportion of the final sale price.
